About

I'm a Philadelphia-based print maker working in mixed media. I learned to sew in elementary school, where the crowning achievement of our lessons was creating, and wearing, our 8th grade graduation dresses. In spite of what most of us considered a traumatic event, a love of fabric, color, pattern, and stitching ultimately led to an interest in quilting. My first quilts were traditional, functional pieces. From there, I longed to use textiles as an outlet for creative ideas. Nearly all of the fabric I use starts as solid white. From there, I dye, paint and print before cutting it up and rearranging into a composition. Silks in assorted solid colors find their way in, too.
My father was an avid amateur photographer and gave me my first camera when I turned sixteen. I have been taking photos ever since and they are an invaluable resource. My subject matter tends to be very personal—exploring family history, places, and nature. Several years ago I started taking classes at PAFA and began working on paper as well as fabric. I love the endless possibilities of print making and the natural exploration of new processes. Sharing ideas with fellow print makers has broadened my skills and expanded my thinking. I am grateful for the wonderful teachers in my life.
